Welgewallen Kelder; Home to RICHARD HILTON VINEYARDS
The winery of Welgewallen is home to Richard Hilton Vineyards. Situated in the heart of the town of Stellenbosch (founded in 1679 and second oldest town in South Africa) the winery dates back to the late 19th century. In the mid 1920’s it was also where Dr.Abraham Perold conducted his first experiments with the crossing of Cinsaut (historically misnamed Hermitage by South African’s), and Pinot Noir, to create the very unique, and proudly South African, Pinotage.

The winery itself has a small 120 ton capacity with built in cooling systems to the stainless steel vats of varying sizes, a Bucher pneumatic bag press and two barrel storage cellars.
