VARIETALS

Richard Hilton Vineyards specialises in the production of Viognier and Syrah – two varietals that are perfectly suited to the Cape ‘Mediterranean’ climate and the decomposed granite soils which are largely found covering the entire region at varying depths.

The first plantings of Viognier in the Cape took place in the mid 1990’s, whilst the earliest plantings of Syrah (or Shiraz, as it is often referred to in South Africa), in the mid 19th century.
